Floribunda is the name of a hybrid rose that is easily distinguishable for the ability of one plant to sprout many blooms. Its namesake is derived literally from Latin, which means, "many flowering". It is a modern group of garden roses which was developed by cross-breeding hybrid teas and the Rosa multiflora. It is also possible to Floribunda roses by cross-breeding hybrid tea roses with polyantha roses, from which the latter was a combination of Rosa chinensis and Rosa multiflora.

The idea behind this complex cross-breeding of plant species is to create a kind of plant that possesses the ability of polyantha roses to multiply its number of blooms. The next objective is for that multiple flowering rose to inherit the same multitude of aesthetic color ranges of the hybrid tea rose. Rosa multiflora, the prototype of polyantha breed, is native in East Asia, throughout China, Japan and Korea. Their purpose in eastern North America is to create a hedge that attracts wildlife and sooner, they ended up become classified as invasive plants whose growth and infestation coverage cannot be controlled by gardeners. Other names to call Rosa multiflora goes with the title Baby Rose or Rambler Rose.

The name behind Floribunda was first coined by a hybridizer named Dr. J.N. Nicolas. He worked as a rose hybridizer for the company called Jackson and Perkins, the most famous rose corporation since the early 19th Century. Since the 1930's the name Floribunda has been used to describe a cross-breeding between the tea and polyantha roses. The first successful attempt of cross-breeding roses resulting to the Floribunda was created in 1909. This flower was named "Gruss an Aachen" and it inherited characteristics evident in both parents, polyantha rose and hybrid tea rose, yet also distinguishably different from both. This Floribunda has larger and shaplier flowers, with the growth habit similar to that of hybrid tea.

The typical appearance of Floribunda roses features stiff shrubs. These shrubs are described to be smaller than the average hybrid tea roses; however, they are less impenetrable and rambling than the average type of polyantha roses. These flowers possess the multiple range of colors and distinct blooming shapes of hybrid tea blossoms. In some cases, they differ from their hybrid tea parents with their ability to grown in clusters with their flowers. Floribundas are known to be used in ornaments for various plans in the bedding of public parks and plazas.
