If you want a sneak peek into trends you are likely to see coming to bridal salons in the next season, a great place to look for ideas is the red carpet. When the celebrities sashay down the red carpet in the latest designer gowns, everyone takes note, including bridal designers (some of whom also cross over into red carpet gowns like Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier). Based on what we saw at the 2011 Golden Globes, these are some wedding style trend predictions.

One style which really stood out at the Golden Globes was the gowns with long sleeves. When is the last time we saw evening wear or bridal gowns with long sleeves? It was a popular look with red carpet stars like Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway. Not only were their sleeves long, but they had a hint of pouf at the shoulders - are we on our way to a full fledged 1980s revival? The shoulders were not quite up to "Dynasty" standards, but the all over sequins and column shapes paired with the sleeves definitely gave a nod to the days of Krystal and Alexis. I bet it won't be long before long sleeves start appearing in the bridal collections as well. For some brides, it will be a welcome change from strapless.

Speaking of 1980s revival, all over sequins were huge for the 2011 Golden Globes. This is a trend which has already started to appear in bridal collections, and the red carpet appearances of stars like Vanessa Williams and Nicole Kidman will surely help to boost the popularity of sequins with brides. The celebrities wore their sequins over their entire gowns, for a beautiful sparkle whichever way they moved. What made their dresses look really special is that the sequins were stitched to a fluid dress, so that they could move a lot for maximum shimmer. Bridal gown designer Theia created a fluid column gown with all over sequins that would be perfect for a bride inspired by the sequin trend. Other designers to embrace sequins include Angel Sanchez and Vera Wang. Don't be surprised to see more follow suit at this spring's bridal market!

The column dresses which were seen all over the red carpet at the Golden Globes are another trend which seems likely to take hold for brides. It is a silhouette which was popular some years back, but was pushed out by more exaggerated trumpet wedding gowns. A fluid column dress is a lovely silhouette for a slender bride. When they saw how good the shape looked on Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, and Claire Danes (to name just a few of the many celebrities who chose this silhouette), how will bridal gown designers be able to resist? Simple column bridal gowns made from silk crepe or jersey can be breathtaking, while a bride looking to bring out her inner diva can opt for a red carpet-worthy sequined column. Brides can play up the slender silhouette of a column gown by choosing sleek bridal jewelry sets such as stiletto drops.

The one shoulder silhouette remained popular at the 2011 Golden Globes (though it is no longer ubiquitous), so that means that trend will carry on in bridal for another season or two. What was new about the one shoulder gowns is that they some of them featured a single long sleeve, a look that has not been seen in ages. Shaun Robinson and Julianne Moore were two of the stars sporting the one sleeve style. The other direction in one shoulder gowns which was very hot was those with a massive embellishment on the single shoulder. The eye-popping red blossom on the gown Christina Hendricks wore took the prize in that category, but it was popular with many other celebrities, including Amy Adams, Mila Knus, and Lea Michele. Expect to see that version of the one shoulder wedding gown coming to bridal salons in the future. This is a silhouette that pairs well with bridal jewelry sets consisting of a fabulous pair of earrings and a bracelet, since a necklace would get lost in the shoulder detail.
